Honda has always stood slightly apart from the rest of the Japanese market. Toyota built its name on hybrid efficiency. Nissan pushed performance and shared platforms. Mazda focused on the driving experience. Honda took a different route. It focused on engines.
If you have owned a B series, a K series, an F20C or a J35, you will already understand. Honda has always been driven by engineering from the inside out. That focus is why the brand still holds such a loyal following across the UK, even with cars now pushing twenty years or more.
Running an older Honda in 2026 feels different from how it did ten years ago. Parts are no longer as easy to source through standard UK channels. Some components have quietly disappeared from dealer shelves. Others sit on long back orders. At some point, every long term Honda owner faces the same question. Where do you turn when the dealer cannot supply what you need?
At Nippon Auto Spares, we have been importing genuine Japanese components since 1995. Honda has always been central to what we do. We dismantle, import, and inspect parts every day. We also see first hand which components are becoming harder to find through normal routes.
Here is what I would want any Honda owner to understand.
Honda models built before 2015 followed a clear formula. Civic, Accord, CR V, Jazz, Stream, Stepwagon, S2000, Integra Type R, NSX. These cars relied on naturally aspirated VTEC engines and traditional transmissions. They were mechanical, serviceable, and well understood across the UK aftermarket.
That generation now sits firmly in legacy support. Newer Honda models have shifted into hybrid systems, CVT gearboxes, and tighter electronic integration. Older cars are still widely used, but they are no longer the focus for manufacturer stock.
The result is simple. Parts that once took a quick call and two days now sit on back order, get replaced with alternative part numbers, or disappear entirely. That is not poor support. It is what happens when manufacturers manage decades of inventory across global markets.
Owners adjust. They always do.
Working daily with Japanese auto parts in the UK, certain Honda models appear again and again across our Honda inventory.
Civic (EK, EP, FN, FK) The EK9 and EP3 Type R have become enthusiast cars. We regularly source engine parts, gearbox components, and original trim through specialist channels. Standard EP, FN and FK Civic models still see steady demand for engines, gearboxes, and panels.
Accord (CL, CN, CU) The Type S and Tourer models remain popular. K20 and K24 engines are strong, but the smaller supporting parts such as sensors, wiring looms, and idle units often cause delays.
CR V (RD, RE, RM) A reliable workhorse. We often deal with drivetrain wear. Transfer boxes and rear differentials come up frequently on higher mileage cars.
Jazz (GD, GE, GG, GK) Simple and dependable, but older models need attention. CVT components, suspension bushes, and electrical parts are common requests.
S2000 (AP1, AP2) Now firmly in enthusiast territory. Demand for F20C and F22C engines remains high. Gearboxes and differentials follow closely behind.
Integra Type R (DC2, DC5) Strong demand across the UK. B18C and K20A engines are becoming harder to find in good condition. Most owners now plan ahead rather than wait for failure.
NSX (NA1, NA2) A specialist case. Parts are not sourced casually. Every job is planned and handled with care.
Across most Honda models, the same categories create problems.
Engine ancillaries Idle control valves, distributors, throttle bodies, and sensor packs. None are major on their own, but each can stop a car completely.
Drivetrain components Gearbox internals, clutch systems on Type R models, differential rebuild parts, and propshaft sections. These must match exact chassis codes.
Electrical systems ECUs, immobilisers, and control modules. Older Honda immobiliser systems can create issues, especially when paired with replacement keys.
Body and trim Lights, mirrors, bumpers, and grilles. These often come up through MOT work, where proper fit matters.
JDM variations Parts from Japanese market cars do not always match UK models exactly. Wiring, connectors, and brackets can differ. This is where experience makes a difference.
Japan provides a steady supply of low mileage components. This comes down to one factor. The Shaken inspection system.
Cars in Japan are often retired earlier due to inspection costs and ownership expenses. As a result, many vehicles enter dismantling channels with relatively low mileage.
For UK owners, that matters. A genuine Honda part from a low mileage Japanese donor often lasts longer and fits correctly first time. It came from the same production line.
That is the difference between general Japanese breakers and a specialist importer. We are not just dismantling cars. We are sourcing with intent.
If you plan to keep your Honda long term, preparation makes all the difference.
Know your vehicle details. VIN, engine code, gearbox code, and chassis variant all matter. Honda parts are specific. Small differences lead to wrong orders.
Focus on parts that can stop the car. Sensors, immobiliser units, and ECU related components should not be left until failure.
Act early. If a gearbox feels weak or an engine shows signs of wear, sourcing parts ahead of time saves stress later.
